2014 Monterey Hickory ClassicOld Del Monte Golf Course
photo by Jerry Stewart - NCGASept 12, 2014With temperatures reaching the mid 70's and a mild ocean breeze, hickory golfers enjoyed a picture postcard day on the Monterey Peninsula at Old Del Monte. Built in 1897, Del Monte's wide generous fairways and classic design are ideal settings for hickory golf. Several new-to-hickory players bravely teed it up and it's unlikely that anyone lost a golf ball.
With $190 bucks up for grabs in our customary friendly skins game, a slew of pars and birdies were tallied. Unfortunately (and fortunate for others) many heroic scores canceled one another.
The lone lady among us, Stacy Brown, lapped the guys with the only subpar round of 66, taking home the first Monterey Hickory Classic's Champion Crystal.
